Privacy policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

Protecting your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.

It covers the website www.calmlyscript.com, the Calmly Script desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the Calmly Script app for Android. There is no online version of Calmly Script.

The short version

We do not collect, store or transmit anything you write. Your screenplays stay on your own device and never reach our servers. There is no account to create, and the apps contain no advertising and no tracking.

The desktop and Android apps

Both apps work directly with the files on your own device. Your screenplays, their automatic backups and their previous versions are stored locally and are never sent to us.

Your license key is checked on your own computer. Entering it does not contact us or any other server.

Updates. The desktop app connects to www.calmlyscript.com for one purpose only: to check whether a new version of the application is available, and to download and install it. That request carries no information about you or your screenplays, and no identifier of your computer.

Spell checking is off until you turn it on in Settings. It is done by the spell checker built into the engine the desktop app runs on (Chromium). On Windows and Linux it downloads the dictionary for the language you choose from Google's servers, which, like any server you download from, see your computer's IP address; on macOS it uses the system's own spell checker and downloads nothing. Until you turn it on, nothing is downloaded. Only the dictionary travels, towards your computer: nothing you write is sent.

Android device backups. Android can include an app's data in the backup that Google provides for your device. If you have that backup switched on (it is on by default on most phones), the automatic backups of your screenplays, their previous versions and your settings are copied to your own Google account, and are restored automatically when you set up a new phone or reinstall the app. This is a function of Android, not something Calmly Script does: the copy travels between your device and Google, never to us. Calmly Script only lets Android make it when it can be encrypted end to end with your device's screen lock (its PIN, pattern or password), so Google cannot read it either. On a device with no screen lock, or with a version of Android older than 9, the app's data is left out of the backup. You can switch the backup off in your device settings, under Google › Backup.

The Android app sends nothing anywhere. It does not even have permission to use the internet, so Android itself keeps it from connecting to anything, and Google Play lists no network access for it. It does not need to look for updates, because Google Play delivers those, and the links to this website open in your browser. It also tells Android System WebView, the component that draws its screen, not to send Google the usage statistics it can otherwise send when you have allowed that for your device.

The website

We use Plausible Analytics to measure visits to www.calmlyscript.com. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data and does not track visitors across websites: it reports only aggregate figures such as page views and referring sites. We run it on our own infrastructure, so those figures are not shared with a third-party analytics company.

Like any web server, the one that serves www.calmlyscript.com and the app's updates records each request in technical logs: the IP address it came from, the time, and the page or file asked for. Those logs are kept only as long as they are needed to keep the server running safely and to look into abuse, and they are not used to find out who you are.

The purchase page shows FastSpring's checkout, which is run by FastSpring (see below).

Purchases

We do not process payments ourselves.

  • Desktop license: purchases are handled by FastSpring, which acts as the merchant of record: it collects the billing information needed to complete the sale, issues your invoice and handles refunds, under its own privacy policy. FastSpring also generates your license key and emails it to you. The key carries the name and email address of the order, so that the app can show whom it is licensed to; once entered, it stays on your computer. We do not keep a list of buyers. FastSpring lets us look up your order, which is how we can help you if you write to us about it.
  • Android app: purchases are handled by Google Play under Google's own privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details.

When you write to us

If you write to us, by email or from Help › Send Feedback… in the app, we receive your message, your email address and anything you choose to include. We use them only to answer you, keep the conversation only as long as it is useful for that, and delete it whenever you ask.

Why we may use your data

  • Looking up your order to help you with your license: to fulfil the purchase you made.
  • Answering your messages: because you asked us to.
  • Server logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the website and the updates running securely.

Information we share with third parties

We do not sell, rent or share your personal information. FastSpring and Google Play handle purchases as sellers in their own right, under their own privacy policies, and Google provides the spell-check dictionaries described above. Some of them operate outside the European Union, under the safeguards their own policies describe.

Your rights

Because the apps collect nothing, there is usually nothing of yours that we hold. Whatever we do hold, you can ask to see, correct or delete, ask us to stop using, or ask for a copy of, by writing tohello@calmly.studio. Your purchase record is FastSpring's: you have the same rights with them, and we will help you use them.

If you think we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, or to the one in your own country.

The security of your information

We take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Unfortunately, the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you provide to us.

Links to other sites

Our website and apps may contain links to other websites and services, such as Google Play. Any information that you provide on or to a third-party website or service is provided directly to the owner of the website or service and is subject to that party's privacy policy. Our Privacy Policy does not apply to such websites or services and we are not responsible for the content, privacy or security practices and policies of those websites or services. To protect your information we recommend that you carefully review the privacy policies of other websites and services that you access.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We will update this Privacy Policy when the apps or the website change what they do. The date at the top says when it last changed, and if a change affects what happens to your data, the release notes will say so.
