Getting started
Trial and license
How the free trial works, what happens when it ends, and how to enter the license key you bought.
The trial
Calmly Script is free to try for 14 days, with every feature. There is nothing to sign up for: install it and start writing.
While the trial lasts, a window opens when the app starts, saying how many days are left. Choose Continue trial to carry on writing.
When the trial ends, your screenplays are not locked away. You can still open them, read them and export them, but you cannot edit them until you enter a license key. The window at start then offers Continue in read-only instead.
Buying a license
A license is paid once, with no subscription, and works on all your computers (Windows, macOS and Linux). Buy it on the purchase page.
The key arrives by email as soon as the payment goes through. It is a long
line of text that starts with CS1-, and it carries the name it was issued
to.
Entering the key
- Copy the whole key from the email, from
CS1-to its last character. - In Calmly Script, choose , or use the window that opens when the app starts during the trial.
- Paste the key into the box. You never need to type it, and it does not matter if the paste breaks it over several lines.
- As soon as the key is recognised, the name it was issued to appears under the box, with the date it was issued. Check that it is yours, then choose Activate.
Activate only becomes available once the key is recognised. When a key is refused, what you pasted stays in the box and the message says why:
- The key did not arrive whole. The copy stopped too early (often at the
end of a wrapped line) or ran on into the text after the key. Copy it again,
from
CS1-to its last character and nothing else. - It does not begin with
CS1-. It is not a Calmly Script key. - It is a Calmly Writer key. Calmly Script is a separate app and needs a key of its own.
Once a key is entered, leaves the menu, and (on a Mac, ) shows the name the app is licensed to.
On Android
Calmly Script for Android is bought on Google Play, separately from the desktop license. It has no trial and needs no key.
